This graceful 3-drawer chest, designed by Mario Rodriguez, is a blend of subtle curves and bold classical proportions. The piece is reminiscent of early European chests with a slight nod to the rich examples of early 20th century Parisian Art Deco furniture.  At the same time it displays a timeless quality that can successfully place this chest in any room setting.

This case piece is designed to not only be a welcome addition to any home, but to teach a range of new skills to our intermediate woodworking students.

These new skills include the following:

  • Building jigs with simplicity and accuracy to permit the construction of complex components
  • Bent lamination, as a process for making solid wood hold a repeatable curve.
  • Cold press veneering
  • Shaping curves using pattern routing techniques on the router table
  • Fabricating solid wood saber legs and executing loose tenon joinery
  • Using sliding dovetail joinery to build curved-front drawers
Come and learn a whole new set of skills, while building a clean and attractive piece worthy of any professional portfolio.
