Short Course

Shoulder Plane Workshop

Instructor:

Alan Turner or Mario Rodriguez

6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. (evening)

Max Class Size: Approximately 12

This is a brief, one evening course on the shoulder plane; packed with interesting information, practical techniques, and hands-on exercises.  First,  we’ll survey the choices available today and help you determine which one is best for you, then teach you how to sharpen the iron and set up the plane for responsive performance and exacting results.

The shoulder plane is an often ignored, but indispensible tool in a furnituremaker’s tool kit.  It falls into the broader category of rabbet planes, but is used to fine tune machine-cut joinery, just before assembly. This is the tool we employ when a joint is just a little out of square, a tenon a bit too fat, or a plow too shallow.

Class:  June 2, 2010, Wednesday evening

Course fee (including materials) $80
