Small Shop Workbench Building Course
9:00 am - 4:00 pm for the weekend classes
Many of our students want a bench, but don’t have the space for our large Joiner’s Workbench. Here is an alternative for the smaller shop. This adjustable height bench is 24” wide, 5 ft. long, and has a top of hard maple at 1-3/4” thick. The leg and stretcher design is similar to the larger bench, but with the material dimensions slightly reduced. By removing just 2 lag screws and 4 bolts, this becomes a knock-down bench. Still, this bench will not rack, even under heavy hand plane work. This is in all respects quite a real workbench; it is meant for serious work.
To reduce the cost of this bench, but not the quality, we are using solid hard maple butcher block, which is mostly quarter-sawn. The front vise will be a small woodworking vise, and the end vise is the new Lee Valley inset vise. With these features, we will teach this bench class in 6 evenings.
Cost, including all materials - $950
As a separate 2-day weekend course, we offer the under-bench cabinet, complete with 4 drawers and a door. Store your most-often-used tools within easy reach, without giving up any additional floor or wall space. This cabinet is built to last, with solid joinery and an innovative method of drawer construction. 40” wide; 17” h., 16” deep.
There are three ways to register for this class.
