Machine Cut Dovetails Course

Instructor - Mario Rodriguez
Class Size: 12 max.
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Hand cut dovetails are considered essential for building fine furniture, but sometimes there’s a good reason to employ machine cut dovetails instead; not every piece warrants the time or trouble required to cut dovetails by hand.

In this practical workshop, students will learn how to set up and use the 3 leading dovetail router jigs available today (Leigh, Porter Cable, and Keller). We’ll cover the pros and cons of each, provide useful information on routers and bits, examine various set-ups of the jigs, and execute (several) shop exercises to familiarize students with typical shop problems and situations.

In addition to learning about the different features and characteristics of each jig, students will build a small dovetailed box to take home. These popular shop accessories are capable of quickly producing clean, strong, and attractive dovetails, suitable for kitchen cabinets, wall units, utility units, and tool boxes.

Cost:  $340, including materials and lunch.
