Before you can build a project, you have to get your ideas down on paper. This critical step in the design/building process allows the craftsperson to develop initial ideas, refine details, and effectively convey their designs to colleagues and potential clients.
During this workshop you won't be stationed at a drawing board, struggling with squares, and triangles. The techniques taught will be a more informal method for getting your ideas down quickly and clearly, using any straight edge, #2 pencil, eraser, and fine-line marker.
The basic principles of perspective will be applied to a simple technique called "diminishing parallel alignment". This takes the conventional rules of perspective and applies them to a more relaxed and sketchy style. Students will practice the techniques on a series of real-life and virtual problems.
These techniques can also be used in the shop to present construction details to colleagues; often clearing up discrepancies, illuminating the fine points of a design, and avoiding potential problems.
Even if you can't draw a straight line, you'll come away with an improved ability to present your ideas in a clear and appealing hand-drawn style.
