Inlay, Bandings, and Stringing
Instructor: Mario Rodriguez
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (day)
Maximum Class Size: Approximately 12
Many
Federal period pieces are adorned with unique and distinctive bandings
and inlays. These decorative borders are often placed to highlight
certain aspects of the piece, creating visual “movement and giving
emphasis to special areas of the piece.
Of
course, bandings and borders can be purchased. But using mass produced
items often hinders or compromises a design. Having the ability to
create custom bandings is the best way to give your furniture extra
“pop” and distinction.
In this weekend workshop, students will learn to:
- Design distinctive bandings
- Jig up to safely cut small, short-grain pieces
- Re-saw and thickness veneer
- Glue up banding “bricks” using cauls, pads, and clamps
- Inlay banding strips and borders
Course fee (including materials fee) $350
