Workshop on Special Techniques and Jigs for Woodturning

Instructor: Mario Rodriguez
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (day)

Maximum Class Size: 10

There are lots of jigs and special accessories that can expand the range of your lathe work, improve quality, and increase your speed. Many are of these jigs and set-ups are simple and shop-made, but time-tested and very effective.

In this workshop, the instructor will demonstrate the use of:  a shop-made steady rest for turning long, slender spindle work, a small faceplate for turning rosettes, and an indexing head for fluting and reeding cylinders.

In class, students will use a collet chuck to make delicate knobs and a steady rest for turning long, slender spindles. Class exercises (performed by each student) will include: turning both socket and tang-&-ferrule chisel handles and a multiple-part segmented decorative column. This practical hands-on workshop will expand your ability and build your confidence on the woodturning lathe.

The preparation and sharpening of lathe turning tools will be reviewed.
