Privacy Policy

PFW respects and is committed to protecting your privacy. We may collect personally identifiable information when you visit our site. We also automatically receive and record information on our server logs from your browser including your IP address, cookie information and the page(s) you visited. PFW will not sell your personally identifiable information to anyone whatsoever.

Safety Policies

The safety of all participants is the primary consideration of PFW. All students will be required to follow the instructor’s directions at all times. Any student who works in an unsafe manner or fails to follow an instructor’s direction may be asked to leave PFW immediately. Under this circumstance, a tuition refund is solely at the discretion of PFW.

Woodworking is an inherently dangerous process. Each student will be asked to agree to the terms of a Waiver and Release of Liability upon initial registration. If one is registering online, a checked box will signify agreement. If paying by check or gift certificate, we require a student to print the Waiver, sign it, and send it to us by mail or email.

Power Tools and Handtools

PFW is well equipped with power tools and the safe use of these tools by the students is permitted. Each student is encouraged to have his or her own handtools, such as measuring and marking devices, chisels, planes, hand saws, etc. PFW has some handtools available for student use. A detailed list of handtools for each course is on the course listing page.

PFW supplies consumables as part of the course tuition, including adhesives, abrasives, etc.

Each student is encouraged to bring his or her own hearing protection and eye protection, and dust protection, if desired; PFW has extras if you forget.

Storage of Ongoing Project Materials

Solely on a “space available” basis, project materials may be stored at PFW during the term of the course only. PFW accepts no responsibility for theft or damage of a student’s materials, hardware, tools or other property stored at PFW.

Anti-Discrimination Policy

In administering its affairs, educational policies, admissions policies, financial aid programs, and other school programs, Philadelphia Furniture Workshop does not discriminate against any person on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, age, religion, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, veteran status (special disabled veterans, disabled veterans and Vietnam-era veterans), or any other characteristic protected under applicable federal or state law or local law.

Tuition Payment and Refund Policy

PFW requires payment for each class upon registration.  If a registrant wishes to arrange for other payment terms, please call the shop to discuss. Refunds are issued only if the canceling student’s slot is filled, and are subject to a $100 cancellation fee. In the event that a student is required to miss a class, it may be possible to schedule some make-up time, depending upon the student’s and the instructor’s schedules. This is at the discretion of PFW. Credit cards are accepted by telephone or via our website. In the event that a course is canceled by PFW, a full refund will immediately be issued.

Security Policy

Your payment and personal information is always safe.  Our Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) software is the industry standard and among the best software available today for secure commerce transactions. It encrypts all of your personal information, including credit card number, name, and address, so that it cannot be read over the internet.

Community Code of Conduct

Philadelphia Furniture Workshop (PFW) is committed to teaching everyone in our community. PFW joins many schools across the nation in adopting a Community Code of Conduct, which will help us to create a welcoming and inclusive educational environment for all.

We expect all people (including staff, students and guests) to be respectful and courteous. Words or actions that are disrespectful, racist, discriminatory, hostile, or harassing are not welcome at PFW. Examples include:

  • Violence, foul language, language that is sexually oriented, threatening, or abusive behavior toward staff or fellow students

  • Physical, verbal, or sexual assault/abuse of any kind

  • Offensive comments about others’ race, accent, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or other personal traits

  • Disrupting another student’s learning experience

  • Possession of weapons or firearms

  • Taking unauthorized photos or videos of students

Any person who witnesses the above behaviors is encouraged to notify a member of PFW staff, who will take action to assist and promote a safe learning environment for all. If we believe that any person has violated this Code of Conduct, that person will be given the chance to explain their point of view. We will carefully consider their response before we make any decisions. The following potential outcomes could occur:

  • Any student or visitor who violates the code of conduct may be asked to leave and future visits may be restricted.

  • PFW may report violations of personal conduct to appropriate authorities, such as law enforcement.

Thank you for helping to create a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment at PFW.
