In this course, students will build an attractive wall shelf made of cherry. Its ideal size allows it to fit comfortably in many rooms throughout the home.

This Shaker-inspired shelf has curved sides and four shelves of varying depths to add an appealing visual element. With dimensions at approximately 33” high, 18” wide, and 5.5” deep, the wall shelf is a versatile size that can fit items such as shorter paperback books, knickknacks, small keepsake boxes, and even spices in the kitchen.

Students will gain experience with the router by pattern-routing the sides and cutting dadoes and learn methods to ensure well-fitting shelves. The fundamental techniques learned in this project can be applied to many future furniture pieces. The Cherry Wall Shelf class is one of PFW’s Beginner courses, which are aimed at those just getting started in woodworking as well as woodworkers with some experience who want to improve their skills while constructing a particular furniture project.
