Build Two Asian Influenced Stools
Instructor: Alan Turner
July 8 - 11, 2019 9 am - 4 pm (4 weekdays)
Build a pair of attractive stools in 4 days. These are suitable for sitting at a kitchen counter or island (9" by 17" seat, approx. 24" tall). They feature splayed, curved legs and a scooped seat. There are almost no 90 degree angles in this piece. Built with a butternut seat, and walnut legs and stretchers, this will be an eye-catching addition to your home. They are quite nimble, weighing approximately 6 lbs. each.
This woodworking course teaches not only a great project, but also how to build and use various jigs which make difficult details easy to execute such as angled mortise and tenon joinery. Among others, we will use jigs for the scooped seat (a router based gimbal device that was the subject of an American Woodworker magazine article), for the shaped legs (pattern routing), for a drill press to drill the round mortises at the correct angle.
Cost includes all materials. Students provide their own lunch.
