Basic Sharpening

Basic Sharpening
$175.00

Instructor - Craig Stevens

To be scheduled again

No matter how much you spend on your tools, if they're not sharp, they’ll be a frustration and take away from the enjoyment of woodworking. Better-quality tools have blades that are often ground flat, reducing the amount of work necessary for fine-tuning, but they all require honing and polishing before they perform well.

Our hands-on, Basic Sharpening class teaches the fundamentals of sharpening, thoroughly covering the geometry of a sharp cutting tool, sharpening stones and supplies, variations for different types of tools, and honing/polishing techniques. The workshop will cover sharpening plane blades, chisels, knives, and card scrapers. A truly most important woodworking skill to help one grow as a craftsperson.

There is no tool list for this class. Students are encouraged to bring a plane blade, woodworking/carving knife, or chisel, to sharpen. If you own water stones for sharpening, bring those as well.

Note: This is a recommended Beginner class.
