Router Basics

Router Basics Workshop
$225.00

Instructor - Craig Stevens

  • March 16, 2024 9am - 4pm (Saturday class)

Routers are amazingly versatile power tools that can perform a wide range of useful woodworking operations. They can be used to create edge profiles and grooves, cut mortises for joinery and hardware, make multiples from a pattern, flatten wide boards, the list keeps going. The goal of the class is to explore routers and all the things they can do, whether hand-held or mounted as a small stationary tool in a table.

Participants will practice useful router operations to get hands-on experience safely setting up, adjusting and using the tool. We’ll also discuss the various cutters, accessories, brands, shop-made jigs and the types of routers to consider when purchasing. We’ll demonstrate making a mortising template for use with bushing guides. Students will also pattern rout their own plywood push sticks to gain experience making accurate multiples using a table-mounted router.

Our intention is to help beginners become familiar with these versatile tools and to demonstrate helpful ways for more experienced woodworkings to get more out of routers they may already have.

Cost includes all materials. Students provide their own lunch.

There is no tool list for this workshop, but feel free to bring your router if you like.
