Did you know about one third of the folks on planet Earth use chopsticks as their primary eating utensil? Discover the satisfaction of making wooden objects by hand while making your own pair of hardwood chopsticks. Using small hand planes and other hand tools, students will shape and refine their chopsticks and apply a food-safe finish in this three hour class. Participants can choose from a variety of wood species for their projects. If time permits, students can make a second pair.

Chopsticks, called hashi in Japanese, are an integral part of Japanese culture. The class is designed and taught by Mami Stevens. Mami is native to Japan, trained there as a woodworker, and has been eating delicious food with chopsticks all her life. She will share the way to hold chopsticks, proper chopstick etiquette at the dinner table, and other fun hashi-related information.

No tools are required and all materials are included in the class fee.
