Come join us at PFW for guest instructor Natalie Yon-Eriksson!

In this workshop, learn about Scandinavian-inspired finishes that are traditional, sustainable, and solvent-free. These finishes include purified linseed oil, linseed oil wax, linseed oil paint, and authentic pine tar - all materials with a long history of use for wood preservation. Explore how these differ from typical hardware store finishes by being higher quality and non-toxic, as well as how and why they work differently on a porous wood surface than modern petrochemical-based formulations that are commonly used today.

The traditional Scandinavian finishes are designed for maintaining and restoring wood buildings and architectural features, like wood windows, but they also can be used on interior applications like furniture and cabinetry as well. Linseed oil paint can be used to create a wide range of beautiful stains that are easily customizable for your specific project.

The workshop is a presentation on purified linseed oil-based finishes that includes a brief history of their use, how they behave, and the best methods for applying them.  There will also be a hands-on portion of the class where students can apply the finishes and paints on small samples to get a better feel for how they could be used on their own projects.
